When I was three years old, we were with my grandmother in her garden with a couple of her friends. One lady said to me "Anna, see the pretty daisies," to which I replied, "Those aren't daisies, they're called coreopsis, and those over there are gaillardia." Of course, at that time if a granddaughter corrected an elder it caused great embarrassment to the grandmother. This tale, that my mother loves to tell illustrates the persistence of flowers as a passion throughout my life.
But it wasn't until after two knee replacements that I opened Liliana Flower Farm. While riding to physical therapy after the second surgery, we passed a greenhouse with a "For sale" sign on it. My daughter said, "You've always wanted a greenhouse, why don't you buy it," and being a little high on pain medication, I did just that. My son, Alan, dismantled that green house, moved it to our property in Loudon, and put it back together.
Also I teach music, teach and play piano and sing with the Concord Chorale. I am a member of The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen where I made quilts that I showed at Sunapee Fair for 25 years. Through the years I have raised chickens, turkeys, goats, ducks, puppies, sheep, and vegetables but have always raised flowers.
